About

After a Bachelor’s degree in Media & Interactive Design at ECAL (Ecole Cantonale d’Art de Lausanne), Simon de Diesbach co-founded the studio fragmentin.com with which he developed various interactive innovation projects. These have led him to winning the ARTS at CERN residency, creating an installation for a work by Pierre Soulages, and collaborating with David Dufresne.

Motivated by the desire to further his skills in storytelling and cinema, he left the studio in 2017 and then undertook a Master’s degree in Film at HSLU D&K (Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts), where he directed Limites, an experimental animated short using 3D laser scanning and motion capture technologies. Selected at the 75° Locarno Film Festival, Limites was subsequently selected at numerous international film festivals such as Ars Electronica, Tampere, Ann Arbor (AAFF), Busan (BISFF), Vienna Shorts, and Animateka. It also earned him a lecture at the MITmedialab (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) in September 2023.

Theoretical and practical research on new technological and aesthetic approaches is one of the artist’s major interests, and he mainly addresses environmental and social issues. By giving a central place to nature in the digital world, often relegated to the rank of decor, he makes it fully subject. Simon de Diesbach is currently working on three projects in development: two virtual reality installations – Dialog, produced by Tell me the Story and LimitsVR, coproduced by Tell me the Story and Dark Euphoria, as well as a short animated film – Lutte, produced by DOK MOBILE.

Alongside his artistic practice, Simon de Diesbach has been working at HSLU D&K since 2021 as an artistic collaborator and as a mentor for the Master Design program. He also gives workshops in animation and design at various Swiss schools of applied arts and universities.
